Poll in the room

Live voting by QR code in a meeting or talk

You’re at the front and want to know what the room thinks. Wannja shows a large QR code, everyone votes on their phone, and the results appear when you want to show them – as the next slide of your presentation.

Free. Participants don’t need an account; a free account is all you need to create one.

How it works

Using the example of a club forum with 42 people in the room.

  1. Create a poll

Enter the question and answers, for example three topics to choose from. Settings: “Anonymous”, “Anyone with the link”, and for the results “Only me” – so only you show the results, whenever you want.

  2. QR code on the projector

On the admin page, open “QR code / presentation” and press F for full screen. The audience only sees the question, the answers, the QR code and a short address such as wannja.ch/m/abc2def.

  3. Let people vote

Everyone scans the code with their phone camera and votes – no app, no account. Anyone voting by QR code does not see the results afterwards.

  4. Show the results

The R key shows the results of the current question, updating as votes come in. Or put the “Results slide” link in as the next slide in PowerPoint, Keynote or Google Slides. The arrow key takes you to the next question.

Frequently asked questions

Does the audience need an app or an account?

No. The QR code opens the vote in the phone’s browser. Only the person creating the vote needs a free account.

Does the audience see the results straight away?

No. Anyone voting by QR code does not see the results. On the projector they only appear when you press R or show the results slide.

Can someone vote more than once?

Wannja curbs duplicate votes: the phone remembers the vote. There is deliberately no limit per network, so a whole hall on the same Wi-Fi can vote. With an open QR code, though, a second vote cannot be ruled out for certain. If you need “one person, one vote”, invite the eligible voters personally (Pro).

Does this work in Teams or Zoom too?

Yes. Share your screen with the presentation view; participants scan the code or type in the short address.

What do I need to watch out for with the results slide?

The results slide link only displays: it cannot change or close the poll, so you can safely put it in your presentation file. If you are logged in while presenting, you always see the result. Without logging in, it only appears when your setting currently shows it to everyone – with “Only after closing”, that means once the poll has been closed.
